Day 250 - Nurturing Nature: My Friend Shawn Planted a Pine Tree in Helsinki, Finland

Day 250 (08 Sept 2023) - Helsinki, Finland

DAY 250 (08 SEPT 2023) – Early in the morning, I received a wonderful message from my friend, Shawn, whom I met when I was in Finland. Shawn (27), is a Chemical Engineer working in Neste, a company that refines residues and wastes into renewable fuels. He very generously helped to book a hostel for me for 2 nights in Finland and offered to pay for the accommodation!

When we met up, he refused to accept my hostel payment and promised to plant a tree whenever he could find time from his busy work schedule. This week, he kept his promise and together with his friend from Vietnam, they both planted a pine tree at a nearby reserve park! He chose a pine tree since it had better chance of surviving the cold winter.

I was so happy to receive this news in the morning! It was so thoughtful of Shawn and his friend to contribute towards saving nature from the effects of global warming. A small act of planting a single tree can go a long way if everyone took the initiative together! Thank you, Shawn!
