Day 196 - Scandinavian Venice of The North: Exploring Stockholm, the Charming Capital City of Sweden

Updated: Oct 2, 2023

Day 196 (16 July 2023) - Stockholm, Sweden

DAY 196 (16 JULY 2023) – I stayed 2 nights at Stockholm, so the entire day was spent exploring this beautiful city, known for its stunning architecture, rich history and scenic waterways.

The city stretches across 14 islands across Lake Malaren that flows into the Baltic Sea, and these islands are connected by over 50 bridges.

The city is very clean and its buildings have amazing European architecture, many of which date back to centuries ago.

I got to see the Stockholm Palace and a view of ‘Gamla Stan’, also known as The Old Town, from across the lake. It is the oldest part of Stockholm, containing some of the city’s oldest buildings and ruins, as well as Stockholm’s narrowest street.

It was very interesting to see how bicycle-friendly this city is. There are many paths and lanes for cycling allowing people to easily get around the islands.

Other interesting places in Stockholm are the world’s first open-air museum and the unique ABBA museum.
