Day 176 - A City with Thousand Years of Culture and History: 6-Hour Journey From Izhevsk to Kazan

Day 176 (26 June 2023) - Izhevsk to Kazan, Russia

DAY 176 (26 JUNE 2023) – In the morning, I left Izhevsk for a 6 hour ride to Kazan. The highway was toll-free and had double lanes on both sides unlike the previous roads taken, reminding me of the PLUS Highway back home.

Along the way, I stopped at a stall by the roadside to have some tasty grilled meat. At a rest area, I met a friendly truck driver who allowed me to check out his truck! Since truck driver travel for long hours and far distances, there was a small bed available behind the seat for them to take rest!

I finally arrived at my stay called the 'Backpack Hostel', which cost me RM 42 per night. I spent the evening exploring this beautiful city. Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, and is the 5th largest and one of the oldest cities in Russia.

Located in the middle of Europe and Asia, Kazan has a rich centuries-old historical and cultural background. Having both Russian and Tatar populations, it peacefully blends Muslim and Christian cultures which has existed for centuries and persisted in modern times too.
