Day 135 - Crossing Borders By Ferry: Embarking on an Adventure in the Land of the Morning Calm

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

Day 135 (16 May 2023) - Fukuoka, Japan to Busan, South Korea. South Korea is my sixth destination on this solo bike world tour.

DAY 135 (16 MAY 2023) – It was quite an eventful but hectic day! I checked out early from my hostel and headed directly to Hakata Port International Terminal, Fukuoka, to board the ferry to Busan, South Korea! The ferry charges were 27,700 yen (RM914) for motorbike and 5,000 yen (RM 165) for passengers. There were not many passengers on board and no food provided, so I had ’Maggi’ noodles for lunch bought from a small convenience store nearby.

After a seven(7) hour ferry ride, I finally reached Busan, South Korea at about 7 pm.

It took me 30 minutes to collect my motorbike as I could not get proper guidance from the ferry staff. Due to this, I was the last person to arrive at the customs counter! The customs officers spoke good English and they were very friendly, polite and helpful.

In South Korea, a carnet is not a necessity here but a motorbike insurance is a must. So, I purchased a 7 day insurance for 79,000 won (RM265) and a customs guarantee fee for 240,000 won (RM 805).
