Day 118 (29 April 2023) - Tomakomai to Oarai to Fujinomiya, Japan
DAY 118 (29 APR 2023) – I travelled overnight on the elegant ‘Sunflower Sapporo’ which departed from Tomakomai heading to Oarai.
This huge ro-ro/passenger ship that was built 6 years ago is very spacious and clean, with many services such as a lounge, restaurant and sleeping cabins, both individual and shared.
In the morning, I went to the deck of the ferry to enjoy the sea view and the breeze of the North Pacific Ocean! However, there was no breeze, only strong winds that kept pushing against me!
I met a friendly couple on board the ferry who were well-versed in English.
They were kind enough to be my interpreters throughout the entire journey on the ferry.
At one point, the couple’s Honda 125cc motorcycle could not start so I quickly gave them my power bank and jump start cable and the engine started up in a jiffy!
The ferry arrived at Oarai at about 2 pm. I quickly left for a 4 hour journey to Fujinomiya. This was quite a challenging ride, especially riding through the busy city of Tokyo - with branching roads everywhere and many flyovers! Luckily, my GPS navigation was accurate and reliable during this journey! I stayed at the ‘Cabin House Yado Fujinomiya’ hotel.
