Day 030 (31 Jan 2023) - Pura Girinatha Temple, Taibesi, Dili, Timor-Leste
DAY 030 (31 JAN 2023) – Today morning, I visited the ‘Pura Girinatha’ temple at Taibesi, about 6 km from Dili. It is said to be the largest Balinese Hindu temple in East Timor although there is a very small population of Balinese Hindus here.
This temple, which is located on a small hill outside the busy city center, is currently undergoing restoration. Its distinct and unique architecture is fascinating. There was a huge Ganesha statue in place so I took the opportunity to seek some blessings.
I’m glad I got a chance to visit this beautiful place - missed the chance while in Indonesia as I was on a tight schedule and some temples were closed at the time of my visit.
Fun facts : A ‘pura’ is a Balinese Hindu Temple, just as how we refer to our Hindu temples as ‘kuil’. ‘Puras’ are built in accordance to rules, style, guidance and rituals found in Balinese architecture.
