Day 022 - Komodo Island Unveiled: Where the Mighty Komodo Dragons Rule

Updated: Jul 4

Day 022 (23 Jan 2023) - Komodo Island, Labuan Bajo, Indonesia

DAY 022 (23 JAN 2023) – Komodo Island is home to a large population of Komodo dragons. I visited the Komodo National Park, where these creatures roam freely.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a park ranger who introduced us to some safety regulations, before he and our guide escorted us while trekking in the forest.

As visitors, we were allowed to get a close look, but advised to maintain a distance - preferably stand or take pictures from behind the creature. After all, these are one of the world’s largest and most deadliest lizards!

The Komodo National Park was founded in 1980 to protect this unique creature. It has since expanded to conserve and protect the entire biodiversity of the region, both marine and terrestrial. In 1991 the national park was declared a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site.

I am happy to have visited this amazing place that is dedicated to preserving nature in its raw sense.
