Day 020 (21 Jan 2023) - 36-hour ferry ride from Surabaya to Labuan Bajo, Indonesia
DAY 020 (21 JAN 2023) – I really enjoyed this ferry ride in these 2 days. I got a good rest, away from my bike travels – slept well, and ate on time. In the evenings, I sat on the deck - enjoyed the cool sea breeze and scenic views of the sea and surrounding islands. After all, it is not everyday that we get to travel by sea!
I also had a good time chatting with other local passengers on the ferry. They were a young lot and very friendly - many of them were from different islands around East Nusa Tenggara, namely Maggarai Timur, Barat and Tengah. In my conversations, I spoke about global warming and the importance of saving and preserving nature. It was heartening to receive a positive response from them. The least anyone of us can do is to plant a tree!
After 36 hours riding on the ferry, I finally reached Labuan Bajo Port in the evening.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a few people waiting for me. I was greeted warmly by Ahmad who lives in Labuan Bajo with his family.
Apparently, he got to know about my arrival from his circle of biker friends, and from social media. As a fellow biker and a member of the bikers group called ‘Bikers 1000 Tikungan Flores’, they have always been hospitable to bikers who visit this island so he booked a stay for me at Hotel Mawar.
